Sometimes, county by county, or even line by line is the only option left, and although it's time consuming, it often proves worth the effort.
Certainly possible they could have separated in some capacity. It's no secret that Anna was unhappy here in Colorado, and although they weren't the richest folks in town, they had a little money, and she would have been able to travel back and forth - especially during the spring/summer when the census was taken.
More coming soon...! Much appreciated, as always. ~ JenAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10088409491178996382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1362503919392294415.post-77423627364640461912012-11-29T15:28:31.514-07:002012-11-29T15:28:31.514-07:00Deborah, Any chance you could send me those two ci...Deborah, Any chance you could send me those two citations? I am not on GenealogyBank (yet), so would love to see if they match what I already have for the family. Were they Breckenridge newspapers? That would be really great, as I have been unable to locate her name at all in any local papers with my own sources.
Certainly possible she could have been enumerated with them, so I'll do another, closer check, under her maiden name, Sadler.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for commenting! We'll see what happens, I guess! My next stop is the 1910 Census - maybe I'll gain some clues from that. County by county! What is that Sherlock Holmes saying . . . when all the most probable solutions have been considered, it must the the least probable . . . "the dog that didn't bark." What if they divorced or separated, and Anna left (for at least a while) with the children? I'm following this story with interest. I thought I would look and see if I could find anything helpful in the collection of newspapers on GenealogyBank.com.

I found two instances where Mrs Robert Hamilton is listed as returning from visiting her family in Illinois. The dates were in 1887 & 1889 and they were listed under the Breckenridge town section.

If she was in Illinois with her family, is she enumerated under their last name?

Good luck with your search....don't give up because they popup when you least expect them.gensearchdebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05007273108314789315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1362503919392294415.post-5785633712818139682012-11-25T20:45:37.606-07:002012-11-25T20:45:37.606-07:00The children who list their parents place of birth...The children who list their parents place of birth as Illinois... they may not have been certain, so I wouldn't cross it off. Pretty common issue, I've found.
And the hard-to-read census with a possible match but no wife... she could have been 'back home' visiting of course.
Big challenge - it is indeed county by county by county, isn't it!
